AmeriCorps Positions


AmeriCorps logoWe have great opportunities for anyone with a passion to teach peace and work with young people. As an AmeriCorps Member at the PLC, you can help children practice peaceful living skills and gain increased environmental awareness through our many programs. Serving in AmeriCorps is a great chance to learn about yourself and the community by reaching out to others.

Benefits

Full and Part Time AmeriCorps positions are available beginning in August each year. Standard benefits for Full-Time 1700 hour 1st-year position include:

  • $10,600 living allowance
  • $4,725 educational award (to repay student loans or pay for continued education)
  • Student Loan forbearance (during your term of service)
  • Health insurance
  • Child care (for those who qualify)
  • Personal and professional development

Qualifications

  • Open to those committed to helping others.
  • Members must be at least 17 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma or be working towards a GED.
  • The PLC team ranges in age from 17-65 with a wide array of educational background.

Program placement info

Part-time and Full-time AmeriCorps members will be coordinating, developing, and facilitating in the following programs:

peace education

Peace Education hosts every Indianapolis Public Schools 4th grade class for a day of conflict resolution and outdoor education at Eagle Creek Park. Groups from throughout the state visit during the summer for fun and interactive peace education activities. Facilitating lessons on verbal skills, Safe Escape, or leading a nature walk, AmeriCorps Members guide students through the days activities.

peace learning camp

Peace Learning Camp counselors spend Monday through Friday in a camp program, about 30 miles south of Indianapolis. Staying overnight at the camp with weekends free, members facilitate lessons on conflict resolution and communication, and work directly with about ten girls or boys as part of a twelve counselor staff with about 120 students per session.

peace training services

The School Support Crew works with students, teachers and parents facilitating sessions on conflict resolution and peer mediation techniques. Members travel to schools and hold sessions at our Eagle Creek Park facility with a team of facilitators.
